Celebrating,
Mother’s Day
Newsday Special Mother’s Day Section
If she’s not in need of personalized romance, perhaps
she could use a little personalized pampering.
Spa gifts have become increasingly popular over the years for
Mother’s Day. But you do not have to send mom to Arizona.
The Village Spa in Roslyn is located in a charming townhouse
in the second oldest building of the historical village overlooking
the duck pond. Relaxation is a given. Owner Rick Joseph distinguishes
his spa from others with private and personalized service. “I
operate this like a bed and breakfast,” he said, adding
that he tailors the experience to the customers’ needs.
Give Mom a gift certificate and let her decide. She can choose
from aromatherapy, reflexology, a variety of facials and a list
of massages. Some body treatments sound good enough to eat:
melon massage, peppermint patty scrub, chocolate wrap. And if
you work up an appetite, a chef can prepare brunch, lunch or
dinner in your private suite.
Mr. Joseph recommends special Mother’s Day spa services
for two-for mother and daughter, or perhaps mom and dad-in private
suites that accommodate couples. There, customers may choose
to use or ignore the amenities, including a Jacuzzi shower,
telephone, refrigerator, TV, Cable, DVD and a computer with
high-speed internet access. “Everybody relaxes differently,”
said Mr. Joseph.
Armed with enthusiasm and fortified with licensed specialists
and gourmet chefs, Mr. Joseph provides a slower-paced, more
personalized experience. “Salons can be factory-like,”
said Mr. Joseph. “Here, you’re not with anyone else
in a waiting room.”
He prepares for each appointment according to the customers’
desires. One mother and daughter team may want tea and scones,
a glass of wine, a neck wrap and a foot soak while they’re
waiting.
Without leaving Long Island, The Village Spa will give mom that
far-away fantasy feel of vacation without the packing and schlepping.
